Yes.  What version of QVT/net?  I am running 3.96.4 concurrently with
the Trumpet Winsock 1.0A.  Haven't run into any problems with unintended
freezes yes.

Frontier Tech makes one of these.  It is bundled with SuperTCP 3.0.  They
call it a Telnet ReDirector.

Frontier Tech has one of these as well.  Also bundled with SuperTCP 3.0.  This
one is called a Telnet Modem Server.

Sure - it's for local hosts which are not known to the nameserver. If you are
only using SLIP/PPP, this is probably not applicable. On the other hand, if
you are on a LAN, and the LAN is not connected to a nameserver, then you would
use the hosts file to name the nodes on the LAN. Most LANs, especially if they
don't have permanent Internet connectivity, don't have a DNS server.

(Remember, you can use this stuff to FTP across the hall as well as aross the
world...)

Also, assuming the hosts file is checked before a dns search is done,
including often-used hosts will speed things up as well as ensure a
trouble-free connection when the nameserver goes down.  (Assuming you have
only one listed).
